Walking into your first sound bath can feel a little mysterious — and that's part of the beauty of it. There's nothing you need to know how to do, and no way to get it "wrong." Still, a few small choices beforehand can help you settle in more quickly and sink deeper into the experience. Here are five gentle things to keep in mind.
1. Come a little hungry, a little hydrated. A heavy meal right before can pull your attention toward digestion instead of rest. Try to eat something light an hour or two ahead, and drink a glass of water before you arrive. You'll feel lighter on the mat and more able to let go.
2. Dress for comfort and warmth. You'll be lying still for the better part of an hour, and the body cools as it relaxes. Soft, loose layers are perfect — think of what you'd wear to nap on a lazy Sunday. As for everything else, don't worry — it's all taken care of (more on that below).
3. Arrive a few minutes early. Rushing in flustered makes it harder to drop into stillness. Give yourself the gift of arriving ten minutes early — enough time to use the restroom, settle onto your mat, and take a few slow breaths before we begin.
4. Let go of expectations. Some people drift into a dreamlike state, some feel emotions rise and release, and some simply enjoy an hour of beautiful sound. All of it is exactly right. You don't need to chase a particular feeling. The less you try, the more the practice tends to give.
5. Leave a little space afterward. The calm of a sound bath lingers, and it's lovely not to rush straight back into traffic and to-do lists. If you can, plan a slow walk, a cup of tea, or a quiet drive home so the stillness has room to stay with you.
And the best part? You don't need to bring a thing — just yourself. We take care of all of it. You'll rest on our custom Walden mats, with pillows and eye masks provided, and we lay out cozy blankets so you can settle in and be truly pampered from the moment you arrive. There's no need to drag your whole bedroom across town. Come as you are, and let the sound do the rest.
